Devon is a walking paradise with 3200 miles of footpath waiting to be discovered. What makes Devon so unique is the variety of the countryside to explore.

Starting in North Devon you are greeted with a rugged coastline with many small coves and bays to explore just off the coast path. For those that like a challenge head to ‘Little Switzerland’ as the area around Lynton & Lynmouth has been nicknamed. The hills may not be as high as the Alps but they may well feel like it to the intrepid hiker. Further west you have the long sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Saunton that are great easy access venues for a walk or a paddle and don’t forget the ice cream reward at the end of the afternoon.
Bordering the coast we have Exmoor National Park. Shared with Somerset, Exmoor is an intoxicating mix of wild moor and lush farmland. With wild ponies and magnificent red deer an enchanting wildlife encounter could be waiting for you over the next rise. Picturesque villages often have an excellent pub offering the local Exmoor ale, a welcome sight after a hard afternoon in the heather.
Mid-Devon is the agricultural heart of the county and an area with some of the best course fishing in the country. Great woods, lush valleys and clear flowing rivers mark the landscape here. Less visited than other areas of the county Mid-Devon makes a great alternative on those busy bank holiday weekends.
There are many forgotten corners to explore in East Devon, especially inland. However the jewel in the crown is the world heritage Jurassic Coast. This features the last section of the South West Coast Path and also offers the eagle eyed the chance to delve into this country's prehistoric history through the fossils that have made this area famous.
Finally in South Devon lies Dartmoor. This area is truly wild and not without its dangers. The weather can quickly change with fog descending within minutes, rendering traditional navigation redundant. However on a fine day Dartmoor really does offer the best rambling in this country. The view from the top of Hay Tor can’t be beaten. For anyone serious about their walking Dartmoor can’t be missed.
