Start from the Northam Burrows Car Park (£3 a day approx) behind Westward Ho's famous pebble ridge. Cross over the pebble ridge via the boardwalk path next to the Lifeguard's hut. Onto the beach and turn right. Walk along the beach for 3/4 mile until you reach the mouth of the Taw/Torridge estuary. Turn right and follow the estuary inland, enjoying the views of Instow & Appledore. Follow the land round to the right when you meet the Appledore Skern (a saltmarsh popular with wading birds) Head around the back of the golf course and take the lane inland past the recycling centre. After 1/2 mile turn right to cross the burrows back to the car park on a well worn path beyond the golf course boundary.
