Route

This walk starts from the delightfully named village of Newton Poppleford. Park in the village near to the church. Please be considerate of residents when parking on the road. From the High Street head up Meadow Drive and turn left then right onto a footpath between houses. This brings you onto Back Lane, cross the lane to follow the footpath through a plantation. At a junction turn left onto the East Devon Way. This is a long distance footpath linking Lyme Regis with Exmouth. At 40 miles it is an ideal weekend trip. Follow the footpath to the road and then turn left and immediatley right to follow the waymarks along a lane. Shortly before a hotel turn left to follow the East Devon Way. Go through a couple of fields and at the lane junction turn right onto a track to continue on the East Devon Way. Follow this path across Harpford Common turning off from the track onto a footpath just before it meets a lane. Continue to follow the East Devon Way until it brings you out onto the main road (A3052). Cross the road to follow the East Devon Way along the lane turning right to go through a small plantation before popping back out onto the lane again. At the lane junction leave the East Devon Way turning left then right to pick up the byway along Naps Lane. Continue straight on ignoring two turnings to the right. This eventually brings you out onto the B3178. Here turn right then first left onto a lane. Take the right-hand fork at a junction of lanes and continue down to a sharp right hand bend. Shortly after the bend turn left onto a footpath and then right to leave the lane and follow along beside the stream. Follow the path by the stream and through a small stand of trees. When it meets the lane turn left then right to continue on the footpath. Follow the fotopath to return to the village, walking up Millmoor Lane to meet the main road again.
