Terrain difficulty: Medium- Easy! Across the rolling hills of Dartmoor
Ease of navigation: Easy- Well trodden paths to obvious landmarks
Animal Dangers: Minimal- but beware the Dartmoor beast.
There are several free car parks along the B3387. I recommend you start this walk from the main car park with the information centre and toilet block which is the first you encouter after you pass through Haytor village. From teh car park cross te road and tur right following the path beside the road. Continue on this path as the road forks and then turn left onto teh abandoned trackway. Follow this towards te old quarry, take the right hand fork to continue on the Tramway. This will bring you out into an area of archeological interest, where ancient hut circles are still visible. Follow the path on through this area to Holwell Tor a short distance ahead. From there head west across the open moorland to Saddle Tor. There are several paths to choose from here so keep straight onfollowing the path of your choice. Turn right at Saddle Tor so you are parallel to the road facing east. Ahead is Hay Tor, again cross the open moorland on the track of your choice. After climbing Hay Tor follow the path downhill back to the car park.
