Terrain difficulty: Moderate- several short sharp climbs
Ease of navigation: Easy-Moderate- easy to follow route as it uses mostly lanes, getting harder later on as the ale kicks in
Animal Dangers: Minimal- although you do pass through farms
This is a little fun walk that can be completed as a mini-pub crawl. If you're driving please have a designated driver, no drink driving! Or why not stay the night in Christow as there are a couple of B&Bs here. Also please take care of traffic whilst walking in the lanes, especially if you have enjoyed a drink.
This walk starts from the car park in Christow. From the car park entrance turn left then take the second left which you will find just past the church. Follow the lane uphill. At a fork take the left hand fork towards Coombe & Reed. Head downhill and follow the lane down to the B3193. Cross the B road and head over to the lane to Ashton.

Follow the lane to your first great pub of the walk, The Manor Inn, which is 200 yards up on the right. After a quick loosener to get you ready for the rest of the walk come out of the pub and turn right following the lane up towards Higher Ashton. Follow the lane round to the right past the church, ignore the turning to the left, and continue on the lane as it heads steeply uphill. After a small cross roads the lane turns right then left. On that left hand turn take the footpath that goes straight on through a small copse. Follow it up through the copse and out across two fields to a lane.
Cross straight over the lane to take a footpath on the other side. Head diagonally across the field to the boundary go over the boundary and turn left to head towards the pond. Skirt round the pond and cross over into another copse. Follow the footpath across the hillside and into another field keeping the field boundary on your left as you head across the hill top. At the end of the field cross the boundary and turn right to head up to a track that brings you out on a lane. Turn right and follow the lane for 1km to take you into Trusham.
Here at Trusham is your second pub stop of the walk so stop and enjoy a drink at the Cridford Inn. From the pub turn left then take the first right at a fork to go down a small track. Take the first right again to pick up a footpath between two buildings. Head diagonally across the fields with the field boundary on your left in the second field. Head over to the track in the field corner and walk along it for about 100m taking the footpath on the right. Follow this path along as it turns right and heads downhill through the farm at Rydon. Continue on the footpath down to the track along the old dismantled railway. Follow the old railway track along to the lane at Lower Ashton coming out by Spara Bridge. Turn left and cross the B3193 again to retrace your steps back up to Christow.
Enjoy a well earnt drink in the Artichoke Inn at Christow, your last pub stop on this walk.
